counting down

So with just pausing to think for a few minutes am launching into this bare-all post. My goal that is. I mean, usually before peopel start fessing up on their blogs, they at least spend a day or night sleeping over the implications, pros, cons and the use of such confessions. Then again, we talking me. So plunging right on ahead:

I need to lose 10 pounds. Pronto. Like yesterday.

***

Oh wait, guys/men. This is purely girlstuff. Unless you like listening to vents, rants, and enjoy the whole drama that women go through while they lose baggage, you may not want to pay close attention to what’s being written here. Like for example, I plan on titling the countdown, so if you see a number, skip right on ahead, coz on occasion I will of course have other things to talk about than me obsessing over my weight loss!  See, how thoughtful I am! 😉

Oh, if you’d like you can join the girls too, I wouldn’t mind at all, in fact it would be supportive if you do actually!

***

Alright, so girls. I need help. As in desperate, girlfriend help. Where you svelte or very-happy-in-your-skin ones can stand in the sidelines and cheer me on. I would also totally love girlfriends who would actually jump in with me and race with me towards this goal I am now obsessed with.

Here’s the deal.

Goal: 10 pounds off in 48 days. (Starting today November 24th through Jan 10th)
Why: Coz! (okay, real reason, is I have to get on stage on Jan 11th, and dance dresses have a way of bulking you up)
How: By

  1. Cutting carbs
  2. Exercising 30 minutes a day (chauffering doesn’t count)
  3. Drinking 8 glasses of water
  4. Staying motivated*

* – That’s where I heavily rely on you all of you, coz falling off the wagon would automatically throw the rest of the 3 above.

I know 10 seems like a huge number but it isn’t and I’ve done this before, maybe not in 48 days, but a few months and it was 15 lbs. I’ve managed to drop THREE dress sizes a few years ago, without going on a major dieting spree,  but purely by doing weights(twice a week), swimming (twice a week) and dancing(once a week). It’s do-able, and I know I can. Catch being I need a kickstart. Like the TVS 50 back home sorts. That’s the reason I post now. Despite this bravo attempt, am keeping the numbers within wraps, for obvious reasons, apart from them being hugely personal. My weight now, to the measurements, to what I ultimately land in.

The range in the numbers as I hope they go down, I shall happily publish weekly.

I am not quite sure how I plan on constructing the intake and workout plan considering my knee is still swollen and not as strong at all, and what would find its way on this blog, but bent I am on putting myself out there to be criticized, and hey, even made fun of too! I don’t care in any case!

If you thinking it’s a badtime to start this during the holiday season, think again, if I can do it now, I can do it anytime correct? 😉

Alright, who’s gonna help me, encourage me, be hard and harsh with me and tuck me under their wings and offer solace, words and humor while I sweat and melt the fat, and threaten to jump off this? More importantly, anyone else want to countdown with me?

Will post at night on how the day went. Here we go. 🙂

Can we start in January 2009? Please, pretty please????

I am going to India soon and there is no way I am cutting back on *any* kind of food there. Nopes, not even for you!

So, January 2009?? Pleasee? I can at least *pretend* to join you then (my diets, like unicorns, exist only in words).

Whining apart, you go girl :-D! I will cheer you and offer you the water-bottles as you are sprinting towards your goal! Go Rads!

THANK U La Vida and Archana!
Archana: lol, okay, tell you what, now that I’ve started gung ho, let em see how long I last. With teh “overwhelming” support I have rt now, I would’nt be surprised if I fed myself a large pan cheese pizza tom. 🙂
In any case, will do Jan all over again. Just for you. You enjoy the goodies back home for me too!:)

the rest of you girls who came read and went away quietly, nice going, and here I thought I’d be flooded with support! *sigh.

Here is the deal. For the last two three weeks i have been contemplating seriously to get rid of some weight and your post came at a right time till I read the”Holiday season”. How can i say no to all the cakes, cookies, wine, beer??????
so i have decided to join you after i consume a barrel of Heinken.

Surya, yesterday in an interview was telling he lost 20 kgs in very few days. He used to burn 1200 calories a day. And for one week followed something called General Motors diet. That, I hear, is bad for health if followed for more than one week. But for one week, it is fine.

You might want to call him. Speak to Jyo first, just to be safe. 😛

ok- i shall cheer you on. I lost 15 pounds in a month once before ( i have put 6 of those back on !)…

Heres the deal- every time you indulge or wall off the track, you loose a day of internet access ok?

    You go gurl!

Daisy: Are you serious? 15 lbs in 30 days? *gasp.
As plausible it may sound, I doubt I can manage or want to do that. I do’nt want to drop dead after 30 days esp considering I have 3 lil folks am responsible for…
    Thanks 🙂

Adithya: That’s insane. He gets paid to lose weight, I may consider if am paid for every lb I lose too :p

Jaya: lol, beer eh? Okay! Sure Jan it is. 🙂

Just reading your post on exercise has me tired and breathless (my approch to losing weight is a good haircut :))

Am also waiting for the day fat transplants become legal (then I’ll be thin AND rich)
But go girl, shall cheer you on from the sidewalk.

  8. You go!!! Will cheer you on!

You can do the GM diet, modified a bit to include rotis or bread..

    http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~jajoo/gmdiet.html

And as Adithya has said, don’t do it for more than a week..it doesnt ask you to starve, but you can eat any quantum of food they prescribe each day…but since you do so much work include rotis / brown bread.

A friend of mine tried it and it really worked. Good luck!!

GDS: Thank you! Let me read and se eif it works for me. As I said, I can’t starve, I go cuckoo, unfortunately. 🙂

naren: lol 🙂 Will do, and thank you! 🙂

wj: haha, yea, wish they’d remove fat cells too. wait, they do. 🙂 I just don’t do that tho’ 🙂

    Praveen: Weights. Bulk up. 🙂

    The basic things are here:
    1. Motivation is the master.
    2. There are NO shortcuts. None.
    3. Do multi-joint workouts like squats, lunges, benchpress for more calorie loss and building some calorie-burning muscle.
    4. There is no scope for taking any refined sugars.
    5. Avoid grains as far as possible. Replace them with more veggies and/or meat.
    6. Drink two glasses of skimmed milk every day.
    7. Don’t think of doing slow and steady cardio: it is a waste of time. If you do cardio, do it such that you are going at it as if your life depended on it for one full minute, and then take one minute’s rest. No more. Start one more set. Ten sets of one minute cardio will be more than enough for you.
    8. There is no way for spot reduction: you will have to lose fat in general, not just from your belly or butt.
    9. Eat six meals: seriously, it works to stave off your hunger.
    10. Cheat meals not more than once a week or two.
    11. Drinking extra water does not do you any good.
    12. Motivation, discipline, more motivation….

doc: Spoke like one. Good points, and I agree and believe in all. 1 and 12 is the reason I posted here. Once I get started, am okay, the catch for me is to stay started awhile. 🙂

Can’t do lunges yet coz of knee. Swimming should help, it did the last time. I dance regularly anyway. Let’s see..

mlc: Sure thing! Subway’s good, but am bringing in lunches. 🙂

CW: lol, none in a day, but then again, the doc shouted at me too and also what did I do anyway? :p

cardio helps to burn a lot! i dont theink the knee permits you to do kicks or run, but try to do light things like walking fast. I pace across the aisles at wrk!

no sugar, the only sucrose that i get is from raisins, dates and apricots and fruits!

loads of veggies n fruits, they have plenty of antioxidants. cud be reason number one for me not bulking up!

no chips and chocolates. I dont remm the last time i ate a bag of chips, prolly at a party last thnxgivin maybe! occasional chocolate is ok as it also has antioxidants.

loads of water, another reason for me! aarrgh. But then from a ladeej standpoint it keeps the skin glowin!

only proper food and no in between crap, or 4-5 small portions a day instead also helps.

chota baccha, but then i can still advise!
