Anyone know of any good beading basics and jewelry making blog? Like really extreme beginner? With pictures. With sweet patient ladies who hold your hand and walk you through each step? Just like the gazillion basic food blogs that are out there with measurements and teaspoons and pictures etc.
I am in desperate search of a new hobby, and this sounds like what I should be doing. Shut up and sit still and learn some patience. It may have something to do with the fact that I have a drawer full of colorful baubles that someone who enters my being and makes me buy at those gem shows that I get dragged to once a year.
The husband’s right. He claims everything I do lasts either for 3 months or 3 years. He calls it ADD and I call it flitting like a butterfly sucking honey from so many wonderful flowers out there! A butterfly can go poof! in the air any second right? Right. Yeah, so am getting out there and trying ’em all. Can’t trust this life what with tsunamis, and recessions and women carrying 12 babies and all..
Apocalyptic signs …
I know what you thinking. I am thinking the same too. Where the bloody hell am I going to find TIME to sit still and do this? I’ll find time, I don’t know how or what and when, but I will. ..and once I feel better with this itch, I’ll quit and donate it all to that nice group of ladies I see outside the gem show cackling excitedly at their finds. But I got to go try this now. The bug’s bitten.
So anyone? As much as I hate using my blog entry as a Craigslist ad, hey, you poor things read me and love me enough to indulge me right? I promise I’ll put up pictures and for all the girls out there, think of the earrings and bracelets that may come your way for the holidays! Stop smirking, they’d be fine enough to wear. I have impeccable taste 😉
Yeah.
Thank you!
This one’s for you, with love from me 🙂

ahem! I know what you saying and I agree. I don’t think am stressed anymore. It’s the need to try something new and get it you know.. 🙂
Look for jewellery making videos on the internet…even youtube has many…videos give a better picture.
I started with a book from the library…that is the best way for beginning because it has a direction …then start exploring on the web
:O) yay!
hehe, had a feeling you’d know. I still wear those earrings you made and get teased by the husband coz apparently I look like a 4 year old on growth hormone! 😐
Okay, u be my official coach then? 🙂
Here are a few websites that I looked up:

There are somethings that rads can’t do.
For everything else there’s mastercard!
PS:In my case make that Jenna Jameson….
Explain yourself young man. Way cryptic for ol’ Rads.
Max, you dirty young man! In any case, Jenna only takes cash.
ok now stop it…you make me feel totally useless lazy woman
You’ve heard of the saying “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em?” :p

Thanks Apple. I remember you dabble in it don’t you?! Those are nice sites. Ika choosuko! 😀
See? This one knows how to use the interwebs. I bet she knows about other stuff too! *wink wink*
welcome to the beaded jewelry mania team…I go through phases of it myself 🙂 and I so hear you on there being so many wonderful things to learn, that it is impossible to stick to one thing for life!
M
ooo, now I really really wish you had a blog. We sound alike 🙂
Now, that’s unfair! “For all the girls out there?” For all the GIRLS out there?? What does that mean?! I protest!
On a different note, I don’t know of any website. I started buying my beads and such when I was 16 and the pendants just became more and more elaborate as the years went by. I barely have any now– don’t wear them anymore and I just gave them away. Obviously, from the age of 16-22, I didn’t have the wisdom to write a blog on my beads exploration– else it would have come in handy now, wouldn’t it?
I warn you though: It’s addictive. Once you start, you decide never to repeat any of your jewelry and once worn, you break it and make it into something else and something else. By the end of it, you’ll have a different accessory for each thing you wear. (You’ve been warned now!)
Waiting for ’em pictures!
hehehe, point taken. I shall now be on the lookout for being more specific 😀
I so totally see me doing that. Getting addicted, re-doing stuff, taking it to a level I will need to check myself into rehab.
😐
Michaels has some really cool Indian looking stuff. I take my Sunday coupon and spend hours trying to find something and then throw the proverbial beads in the air and come home and blame my husband for not giving me a daughter ;-).
Moral of the story::When all else fails, blame the husband.
LOL! You too kind, blaming the husband is my default mode ;-D
I was there yesterday and blew $60. This week’s turned out expensive 😐
Have you ever tagged a post “girlstuff” before?!
I so have. Did you click on that tag?
But you know what, I understand your shock. I shock myself occasionally too. Out of body experience and all that jazz..
That’s cool. My older sister does this a lot and even sells her creations. Meg got into it when my sister was visiting and loves it. I will ask my sister if she has come across any sites 🙂 Any pointers I find here will also benefit Meg 😉
yeah? Cool! Ive always admired folks who can create stuff. I remember trying earlier and then gave up coz the kids wree running all over threatening to put them beads in mouths or other forbidden places..
Yes, get her in, she may just make u cool ones! 😉
Rads, you should make some grillz and gold chaynz. And wear clothes three sizes too big, and start freestyling.
Totally! That shall be my goal. A Christmas card with a picture of the hubby and me free-styling! Done.
With audio.
craftster.org is huge forum for all things creative.
My 10 yr old is into beading. She just bought this book. Not jewellery but same thing

I asked a friend who is into beading about sites and she asked me to google peyote stitch and start with that.
Let me know if you find any sites.
Your oldest one reminds me of mine in a few ways, not this beading though 🙂
Will update here when I do start on this – but look at these colors! My eyes spun!

Looks like you are like me in this regard.
As a kid I have done beading, you know in villages how they make ‘Thoranam’ and even small stuff like Chair, table etc made of beads for Navratri Golu. I have done that, I need to ask my Mom if she still has it.
This post rekindled my passion for this art form!!
lol, I totally remember them. It seems similar to teh peyote stitch above. Check that link out.. it is right?
So u buying a bead kit tonight? 😀
woman, where do you have the time and energy??!!! I have too much respect for you 😛
I can barely pack 2 dabbas and work!
LOL. Everyone starts with nothing, we just add along as much as we can pack 😀
I can help you by pointing out a few websites whose owners you can gift them to, once beaded. There is one link just above the sentence “I can help you..”.
ah, you’re on. 🙂
Though thinking about it, I’d rather you teach me those lovely Tanjore paintings that you do so well.
i can so relate to this post with the only difference that my latest bug is crochet 🙂
know of any good sites to give me free designs and ofcourse with pics and videos?
and i guess being butterflies is so interesting and colourful 😉
There are some definite advantages.
You could always refer to yourself as We, and people would assume it’s the royal We.
For another, you don’t need to get offended when people tell you that you suck, because, well that’s pretty much all you do any way.
The only downside would be when some jackass of a collector decides to go after your royal, collective asses.
LOL! Well, we do flit around and tease children and allow for some wonderful reproductions of ourselves in artwork! So there.
Very profound.
ah crochet. I remember doing a doily once ages ago and it got all wrinkly and hardly a perfect circle. The stitch however’s cool 🙂
Hey Rads! No clue about arty stuff. But I can give you some a chain of really small tiny sapphires that I bought on a whim and have NO clue what to do with them now. My contribution to your artistic future 😀
Heyy! You’re back! 🙂
lol, sure, let me first try my hand at something this weekend. After seeing that, if you’d like to take a chance with me, send ’em over. Will see what “art” I can create 😀

It will be so boring to stick to the same thing for your entire life.
