with wide brown eyes
a nose perky like a spur
chubby as pies
looking up at me
as I settle down on my knee
folks said:
she cried for you
‘akka’
parched lips and a feeble voice
there was a bond
something I couldn’t get
it just felt good to be wanted
by my very own pet.
lugging your bag
and holding your hand
i rushed into crowded buses
twice
with you as a tag
protecting and shielding
as me: a 11 year old fledgling
could manage to drag
you shot tall and fair
and there you were in my closet
rampaging all my wear
forced to share
i cribbed and let go
you were after all
my small young study
friends we became
sharing stories of boys
dresses and let-downs
as each shifted blame
when accosted by the scary ‘rents
now you’re all grown up
home, kids and a partner
you snap at the advice I pour
an adult you say you are
yet
for me
a little sister forever
a year
make do with our time
happiness in a slice
with a beaming smile
my eyes filled with pride
i see you
on a blazing trail
while I trudge behind you
a snail
our roles are plenty
our roles are reversed
a confidant
a mentor
a friend
we make a beautiful blend
wishing you all of world’s happiness
as you step on the hill
I love you with all my heart
my dear little sister
though you protest
against me all you will
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Madsies
Happy Birthday to you
Awww thats sooo sweet rads. Madsies is one lucky sis!
P.S. Goosebumps
you said everything that i wanted to say to my sis. the thing is, she is a bigger rebel. but then i have my baby-sister now, and i intend to be a better brother for her.
rads:
wow! great poem, really nice. i have to say though that it is easier to be one of two sister siblings – or one of two brother siblings – than one of each! it is much more difficult for a brother to appreciate where his sister is coming from, and vice versa. and no, being married does not help! 😉

Thanks all 🙂
sb – I do not have an older bro, but envied all my friends who did. It seemed such a beautiful relation. I see my husband with his sister and my son with the munchkin and there’s something special about what they share alright.
Marriage does ruin things in more ways than one 😉
rads:
i didn’t mean to say marriage ruins anything – my point was if you are one of a brother-sister pair, being married is no help in understanding either your spouse or your sibling; that they understand each other perfectly makes it even worse – one tends to get ganged up on!

That’s so sweet…my younger sis is really like my older sis – wayyyy to responsible 😛 I always wished for an older sibling – brother or sister so I wouldn’t make the same mistakes I did now 🙂
Wow…so thats why my elder sisters’ always giving advice…. and true, am always rebelling against it….
Rads, That was lovely ! Wish your sis a very happy b’day !
tat was sweet…. here’s wishin Madsies (mechanic Mary…. he he he….) once again here 🙂
happy bday Madsies!!
Very heart-warming, Rads…
Thanks all 🙂
Silvara, Nandita – older sisters have it tough. Sometimes it’s unfair too! 🙂
sb – I was being tongue in cheek when I said that. lol, so you get ganged up upon eh? Nice! 🙂
rads:
lady, you are jumping through the hoops to your own conclusions ;-).
i was speaking … umm … hypotheatritheoretically! (try saying that tongue in cheek now)
– s.b.
hmmpff! My excuse – am a nice person :p
Really sweet! :–))
Many happy returns to Madsies.I have always wanted a sister, now even more. :–)
I wish I had a sister who would write me such poems.
terri, sk – Since I can’t give my sister away as I don’t have exclusive rights on her anymore, am offrering me up. Feel free to adopt me 😀
Thanks every body for all the wishes…! And let me tell you, even though there is advice and rebel, it is wonderful to have an older sis like Rads! I always looked upto her and thats y the “akka”! 😀
