did you know there was a Lahore in VA

Yep, you heard me right, there’s a small town south of Culpeper [the name still gives me the shivers] about 70 miles south of Washington DC called – Lahore. It’s right there in the center of the triangle formed by Culpeper, Fredericksburg and Charlottesville.

If that wasn’t interesting enough there’s a Mr. Noor Naghmi a Pakistani Immigrant who has plans of buying it for a cool $3 million!

He has lofty ideas of creating a super-sized tourist attraction showcasing the histories of both towns, running a bed-and-breakfast serving chickpeas along with eggs and bacon. He’s got architectural designs drawn up and he’s even hired an Indian firm in Hyderabad to draw up some facades for the buildings he dreams of.
Read more on his dreams and aspirations.

Only question is – Is rural VA ready to embrace a different culture in all of its 235 acres? His ambition and dream is heartwarming, maybe it would work great after all!

I wouldn’t be surprised. There is a Delhi, Calcutta, Bombay and Madras in the US already.

Actually, its no wonder at all. After all what is America made up of: migrants. New York, now named after York, was once called New Amsterdam.

dna – It’s too early to say anything 🙂

wh – true true. I sometimes feel US is so huge that what choice do they have but to “borrow” names from the rest of us.

Orchid – totally go desis! ;-)) These days, we have tons of 2nd gen desi kids at least who make such an impact on Journalism – of all kinds. Very cool.

art – yes. we are still reeling with the act. I know a few kids who go to VTech and made some frantic calls last evening. All’s well, but that’s 31 young lives snipped away.. very sad.

rads, you’re probably busy being a model new employee and all, but no job is worth neglecting your blog, unless, of course, it’s your dream job.
