pretend

I subscribe to this lovely blog – Sketched out – as I like looking at sketches and illustrations. Why? Coz what we don’t have, we lust for. I used to be able to draw, now my fingers have become pudgy and my mind has lost control over them. As in I mean to draw a fluid smooth line and now it looks like a route a drunk ant would take across the sandy Sahara. To think that I once fancied myself as a neuro-surgeon; there is a God after all who looks after all you people needing brain surgeries!

This week – rather last Friday – the theme was “pretend

Don’t we all love to pretend? Like I am right now? When am actually supposed to be writing this all serious regulatory mumbo-jumbo that I know squat about, and am bored outa my mind, and hence doing this post? The upsetting part is that it’s 9.33 am and I am already pretending.

I pretended yesterday that a friend missed me as much as I did.
I pretended to be all sweet and thankful while I wrote a thank you note to someone. The person didn’t deserve it but appearances must be kept for the greater good of who the crap knows the future.

This pretending is hard. It drains me completely. So after a couple of levels of pretension, I give up mid-way. Thankfully this isn’t a team affair and little wonder why I prefer working alone. Coz that gives me the freedom to not pretend, and once am bored or the thing doesn’t interest me anymore I am free to walk out. In style. while a megaphone blares “Elvis has left the building!”

Then again, dreams exist coz real life sucks when you wake up. O alright, am being cynical and borrowed Mrs. Grinch’s hat for the day, but yea, this whole act of ‘pretend’ – what a bore it is! It’s like you’re stuck your whole life walking the ramp in a Ms. Universe pageant or some such. I find them boring and a complete waste of time. I may reserve my judgment if semi-nude men were paraded around but even then after awhile if all the dude’s doing is strutting his stuff and smiling like an idiot, then sure, he’d probably last 30 secs on my radar. No, am not weird, just very sure on what ticks me.

So yes, the blogger sends in an entry along with a whole bunch of others, every Friday to Ilustration Friday. Neat thing that. That place is even more fun. To me an illustration isn’t just that. Sadly for the simpler simplistic ones who would like to keep a drawing just that. You know the saying “a picture is worth thousand words” I think I must’ve drunk it as a child or something, coz I can’t let a good picture just go. There’s always a story behind a picture. The story can be on the picture, start from there, start from the artist himself, on, above, beyond, originate, and end at various points within the diorama we make with it.

This picture at the blogt, cracked me up with its irony.

So yeah, anyone care to tell me what they are pretending to do right now? Like right now, after I hit Publish, am going to go pretend to be very tired and will need a cup of cofee to boost my spirits and spend another 20 minutes talking with the PYT and exclaim how pretty her sweater is, and how her copper highlights are making her eyes pop. Then I shall come back and flop at my desk, coz all that pretending, it would just make me sick in my stomach.

I don’t make sense, do I? Yeah, that’s what happens to me at the thought of ‘pretending’. Anyways, enjoy the picture and the story it relates to you 🙂

Sorry but I like this very much:

I’m feeling rough, I’m feeling raw, I’m in the prime of my life.
Let’s make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.
I’ll move to Paris, shoot some heroin, and fuck with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun.
Yeah, it’s overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute.

Forget about our mothers and our friends
    We’re fated to pretend
    To pretend
    We’re fated to pretend
    To pretend

I’ll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I’ll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I’ll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I’ll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone.

There’s really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.
The models will have children, we’ll get a divorce
We’ll find some more models, everything must run it’s course.

We’ll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
    We were fated to pretend
    To pretend
    We’re fated to pretend
    To pretend

  3. This is what the picture tells me – “If you are going to pretend, make sure you have a strong hold of it!” Depending on what you pretend as and why you pretend it can be boring or fun.

I’m pretending if I sit up nice and erect I might not feel the bottom of my belly resting on my lap right now. Not working, unfortunately 🙁
